Gnomon - Term 5

This term was a pretty heavy one. Many classes requiring countless hours of work throughout the term.. with some not even yielding a piece of art.
I can say I learned quite a bit and am much more familiar with a few programs thanks to this heavy workload, I just hope my work reflects the amount of time I put into it.

Character Texture
This class is focused on creating a film quality character ready for the big screen! We focused on high detail texture mapping and the theories behind creating textures for every part of the model that will be seen.
Taught by the awesome and talented Mark DeDecker.

Teeth
Character Texture Assignment

Programs Used: Zbrush. Maya.
Rendered In: Mental Ray.

Eye
Character Texture Assignment

Programs Used: Maya.
Rendered In: Mental Ray.

Feliane
Character Texture Final

This took up quite a bit of time this last term, and I struggled with this one from start to finish..
My first textured character.
Concept by the talented Charlie Bowater
Check out her awesome work on deviant and cghub if you have not already!

Programs Used: Zbrush. Maya.
Rendered In: Mental Ray.

Creature Sculpture
This class was all focused on telling a story through the narrative of our sculptures.
Taught by the awesome and talented Mark DeDecker.

Dragon
Creature Sculpture Assignment

This guy lives in the desert, food is scarce, and for a large creature traveling would use too much energy. He digs a hole in the ground with only his head sticking out, which looks much like the natural wildlife of the region. When unsuspecting animals wander by, the dragon gets to eat.

Programs Used: Zbrush. Maya.

Turdo & Co.
Creature Sculpture Assignment

This is your classic horse and the carrot scenario. The carrot being sentient insectoid criminals that are used as a riding crop for the King of the Insects (to be named), and the horse being the dimwitted Turdo, a smaller armadillo sized creature that moves slow but steady and is always hungry, once his eyes are focused on something tasty, he cant resist.

Programs Used: Zbrush. Maya.

The Detective
Creature Sculpture Final

Based off a piece of artwork from a comic book called Elephant Men.
This one seemed to come together faster than the other final projects.

Programs Used: Zbrush. Maya.
Rendered In: Vray.

Look Development
This class teaches how to focus on any material or "look" and achieve it. I learned quite a bit about shader work and tricks here. This class pushes you to create some real quality renders in Vray.
Taught by an extremely intelligent man named Ryan McDougal. He gives the most constructive critiques, very informative and helpful.

Look Development Final

This project actually physically and mentally tortured me. I learned quite a bit, and realized how difficult it can be to achieve something that looks "real".

Programs Used: Maya. Zbrush. Nuke
Rendered In: Vray.
